So I'm taking some classes for winterim and one of them is an art history course on Islamic Art and Architecure. Now his past week all we have talked about is religion, primarily on Christianity vs Muslims.
Now I grew up in a Christian home where I was told that I needed to believe in God or I should be ashamed of myself. However, we stopped going to church when I was very young. So I grew up not really paying any attention to religion and learned more about science in school. I learned all about what we are made up of and how we are created. Nothing about why we are here. We are mammals, evolved from single cell organisms that have the correct variables to promote life. We just exist. There is no reason. But God supposedly gave us a purpose in life, one that changes variously throughout each religion and each Bible. So which one is right? Which purpose are we born to accomplish? Or is there really no purpose at all? Do things really happen because "that's the way they are suppose to happen, because God made it that way" or is it just because of our own choices, our own beliefs and what we chose to believe in. I've thought more about religion and my point of view on life in the last week then I have in my entire life. I'm very indecisive on what I believe in, so I don't entirely know if I truly believe in God or if I believe in science. At any rate, I've come to a stand still. Are we God's creations, or are we simply organic molecules that evolved and began natural selection?
I am interested in your point of view. What religion are you and what are your beliefs. What do you think the purpose of humanity is?
