Here I am for Jade's project: [link] I have to say that I'm really pleased with this artwork. I was looking with wide open eyes and mouth on your great blending work! Fantastic how you've done the edges of the hole in her stomach!! There are only a few little remarks that I have:
-The first one is one the others noticed too, so I'm not going to whine about it: the green color inside of the hole
-The second one is the hair... I would say: learn to paint hairs instead of using premades. Cause when you paint the hair yourself, you can add lights, loose strands that catch light and you can give it depth with darker colors for shadows. On this wonderful artwork, this premade hair doesn't look real at all. Here on dA there are great tutorials on how to paint hair, I learned that way and I can promise you it's a lot of fun!!
-The last thing is the background. The quality of the stock you've used for that is kind of low, so it looks very grainy. I do know how frustrating it can be when you find the perfect stock and then you notice it's not one of good quality and you really want to use it. A few things that might help are these: you can first put a noise removing filter over it and then you can smudge that background some so it looks more smooth. To create even more depth, you can also blur that background (of course also good against grainy effects).
These are just a few little pieces of advice from me. It's more about details, cause your work looks great! It has a huge impact and the idea behind it is completely stunning! Keep the good work going!
The first thing I noticed when I looked at this picture was the green in the middle of her abdomen. I am not sure what you are trying to show here it looks like a green arrow pointing down, is that what it is? I think if this portion was darker maybe black it would have just left my imagination to wondering what little monster was going to come out of there, but I find myself distracted by that lighting. The texture on her skin is awesome it really looks like something breaking through her stomach in a none to neat manner. It gives a great impression of chaos which leads credence to your story.
Her hair is another thing I noticed, I am not the best at hair at all so I often use premade hair but her hair seems to look a little blurry in the middle which does not match the rest of her hair.
The lighting looks good on her and you can tell where your light source is coming from in the picture.
Overall I really like this piece, it is nicely done and gives me a creepy feeling. Great job.
You know, not saying this is the best answer but I use these brushes [link] or [link] on top of premade hair to add a bit more texture. There are other brushes you can use, but I find these to be the easiest for me as a beginner at hair drawing. I still am by no means very good but practice helps. :0)
Wow, this is kickass! I saw this in ^SanguineVamp's critique journal, so here is what I can see:
I know you used premade hair, but those always look a bit fake to me. In fact, I could tell it was premade hair before I looked at the credits. I think it mostly shows in the bangs hanging down; I'd just recommend adding a few thin brush strokes to fill it in just a teensy bit. Maybe make a few strands longer than where the bangs end. The only other thing I see that bugs me is the inside of the hole. I'm not quite sure what it is, but I think it could be the color? The rest of the picture seems to have a red/purple color scheme, but the green throws it off a bit. Maybe try a purple? I'm not sure if that would make it better or not, but that was just the idea I had.
Overall, excellent work, especially with the blending of the cracked/ripped flesh. The whole picture is so cool ^.^ Those are just 2 rather nit-picky things I could find to critique on. I don't critique art I don't already think is great, so hopefully you take that as a compliment
Premade hair is definitely useful! It's just that sometimes it needs to be worked on a bit Hair from 3D programs, especially, seems to look a bit off XD I think a few thin brush strokes here and there can improve it
